I'm here.
How ya'll?
I'll be back.
Just sayin.
later.
We sat in the window overlooking Georgia Tech and the Atlanta skyline (seen above), and we felt like we had our own private room. The couches were comfortable and the table was large enough for 6 people to eat around. Although we did order basically the entire menu, so space was at a premium. The conversation flowed, the drinks were great, and the food even better.
Dessert was incredible. The Tiramisu is a must have and the Chocolate Mousse Torte was crowd favorite, too.
Thursday night had me meeting friends at The Brick Store. (Picture at left is from their website) This is my favorite place in Decatur to eat, drink, and hang out. The beers are great, the food is diverse and plentiful, and the environment is casual and relaxing.
Upstairs is a Belgian bar with low ceilings and dim lights. You can easily forget you are in a major city. The beer list is extensive, with a rotating tap list so nearly every visit offers a new tasting. The menu is also rotating with seasonal updates.
Friday and Saturday saw me at the Brick Store for a second and third time this week. Friday night was an early date night with Katie at Ted's Montana Grill, then meeting friends at The Brick Store around 9 pm. Unfortunately, they were near capacity and we stood in the cold as temperatures plummeted into the upper 20s.
Saturday was a little more reasonable with a only a 5 minute wait at 7 pm.
I had heard about the event several weeks before, however I forgot about it all together until the night before. Several friends were consulted about where the race was going, the route, the timing, and the official cheering station location. So plans were made to walk up to the nearest cross street just a few blocks from my house. Katie, Alan, and myself headed out about 7:45 am and had just enough time to get to a water station and see the first runners go by.
From there we walked a few more blocks until the masses started coming by. The little girl above caught my eye when we arrived. She was sitting on the sidewalk, watching people pass out Cliff Shots. As she watched, she held onto a little bear wearing a Christmas coat. More runners came, and she grabbed a Cliff Shot and stood by her Mom. Timidly the little girl extended her hand toward the runners, holding the packet close to her. A runner reached for it, but the connection failed, resulting in the packet falling to the ground. "Hold it up higher" was the advice from Mom, as she put another packet in the girl's hand.
The next chance was a success and a clear "Thank You" was shouted back over the runner's shoulder. This made the girl smile and her confidence was more visible with a full reach to hand out the next packet. Again and again, she handed out packet after packet. Nearly every runner made an effort to thank the young girl.
April 1st was a nice lazy day. Slept in. Played on the computer. Looked at stuff. Listened to the rain. Ate ribs from Maddy's. Going to bed early.
April started off nicely.
If you have kids and are visiting Atlanta for a period of time, this would be a good 1/2 to 3/4 day venue to visit.
On the walk home, I noticed all the signs on my street. Next time I'll work on composition.
With my new found time I've turned my attention to long over due yard work. The above "before" picture was taken Friday. This morning, Katie and I cut down lots of overgrown bushes and "stuff" that had gotten out of hand. The "after" picture was taken this afternoon.
Now that we can see the area we have to work with we can figure out what to do with it.
I got a call one afternoon from a friend that went something like this:
"Hey, wanna go photograph the 'Dukes of Hazard' house?"
"'Dukes of Hazard' house? What's that?"
"A house where they filmed a scene or two for the movie 'Dukes of Hazard'."
"Sure. Where is it?"
"Bumblefuck Georgia"
"Ok, let's do it"
About a week later we arranged time to go photograph it.
I'll believe it when I see it, and by "it", I mean CONTENT! read more
